IT’S TIME TO CHECK OUT THE FLUFFIEST RESTAURANT IN DOWNTOWN DAYTON

Salt Block Biscuit Company has been delighting downtown Dayton since they opened to rave reviews on September 22.

“We are much more than just your basic biscuits and gravy joint.” They shared on facebook, “Next time you’re downtown hop in and pull yourself up to the bar and try one of our satisfying Sammies.”

The Castor and Whaler

The Fire Blocks District is fortunate to have this breakfast and brunch destination as it’s adding warmth and extremely content taste-buds to the area. You can even live above the Salt Block, as there are still a few loft apartments available to lease. Imagine just having to take an elevator downstairs to get a biscuit and say hi to owner Justin Mohler- all at 115 E. Third Street. Sign up for a tour of these apartments in the Fire Blocks District today to get an understanding of what urban living has become.

Mohler says it’s very exciting to be a first time business owner. And it’s equally exciting to be open in this newly happening district that’s in a city he basically grew up in. He’s thrilled to offer urban residents, Daytonians, and lucky visitors take home desserts, and dine in open face style biscuit sandwiches.

They’re currently open Tuesday – Saturday from 10-4pm. You can try their “Sammies”, tinned seafood, bakery items, and of course stock up on biscuits for your home. Here’s another from their menu:

Beyond the mouthwatering menu Justin frequently cooks up specials like this luxury seafood pie from last Saturday’s brunch:

Sunday Seafood Pie

This special features creamy smoked salmon and gulf shrimp with sweet peas, herbs, and parmesan served over a puff pastry crust and topped with toasted garlic potato mash.

They also shared on facebook that the cheddar thyme biscuit has become a fan favorite. Locals often substitute this biscuit to be the base of their chosen Sammie.

There’s not a week or day when you won’t be pleasantly surprised by what Chef Justin Mohler is baking. Just check out this recent special to see what we are talking about:

On any given day you can expect an array of baked goods from cinnamon buns with their famous Salt Block cream cheese frosting, to chili cornbread pies. As we mentioned their pastry items are always changing but here’s what’s been in the case of late: simply spiced pumpkin loaf, chocolate buttermilk layer cake, grapefruit zucchini cake, apple sweet bing cherry cobbler, peachy ginger cobbler, and cookies (just to name a few).

Don’t Forget Desert

Don’t forget that Salt Block has savory take home items as well. Their tinned seafood can be enjoyed on elaborate “planks” in-house, but you can also buy many items for your pantry. Cole’s smoked rainbow trout in olive oil is one tin on the menu, which can be accompanied by any selection of their “grabby snacks” and “homemades” to go. Here’s the menu for your perusal:
